Football

The Premier League returned this weekend after the International break. Arsenal moved into 2nd after thrashing Liverpool 4-1. Liverpool is now 7 points outside the top 4 with Manchester City playing Crystal Palace tomorrow night. Manchester United put more pressure on Aston Villa with a 3-1 win.

Chelsea leads the league by 7 points after a 2-1 win over Stoke. The highlight of that game was a wonder strike from inside his own half by Charlie Adam.

These results leave Manchester City in 4th and a loss tomorrow night will heap more pressure on manager Manuel Pellegrini.

At the bottom there were important wins for QPR, Leicester and Sunderland. Burnley managed a draw against Spurs today.

Leicester still sit bottom, with QPR 3 points above them. Burnley make up the bottom 3 with Hull and Villa only 2 points outside the drop zone.

Boxing

Anthony Joshua returned to the ring last night and beat American Jason Gavern with a 3rd round knockout. For someone so polite and well-spoken outside of the ring he has a nasty side in it.

On the undercard Jon-Lewis Dickinson stopped Stephen Simmons in 8 rounds.

Anthony Nelson beat Jamie Wilson after Wilson’s corner pulled him out after 6 rounds.

Stephen Smith won a 6 rounder to keep himself ticking over in the hope of getting a bigger fight possibly a world title one later in the year.

Over in Canada Adonis Stevenson easily beat Sakio Bika to retain his World titles and possibly set up a unification clash against Sergey Kovalev.

Amir Khan has named Chris Algieri as his next opponent and scuppered any plans Kell Brook had of an all British fight in the summer. Algieri has 1 loss on his record and that was against his last opponent Manny Pacquiao.

Khan still hopes to fight the winner of Mayweather v Pacquiao and will be hoping this fight will but him at the front of the queue.

Khan has been quite disrespectful of Brook and last weekend’s win. Brook does not decide who his mandatory challenger is, that is the governing body. All Brook can do is beat who is put in front of him. Brook along with Mayweather and Pacquiao are the only champions in that weight division.
