AK: Baylor – Baylor is being touted as the best team in the country. First Baylor has looked very good. But to say they are the best team in the country, in a year when no team has really showed a reason that they are the top team over anyone else. Baylor has an outstanding offense but they havent played any teams with a great defense. Outside of Texas Tech, who has for the most part overachieved this season, Baylor has not yet faced a great offense. in fact that is their only opponent from a Power 5 conference this year. I think we may not have seen Baylor play enough quality competition to call them the in the land.
AK: Iowa – Like Baylor, Iowa is undefeated. Unlike Baylor they have played three Power 5 opponents this year. With that being said, I think Iowa will be undefeated for a short period of time going forward. Illinois could be a trap game when a date with Northwestern is right around the corner. If Iowa makes it through the next two weeks they have a shot at getting to the big ten title game without a loss, however I would bet against those odds.
SM: Ohio State – Why are Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes still number one in the country? Preseason rankings should not hold this much weight. We need to quit kidding ourselves and remove the Buckeyes from the top ranking in college football. They haven’t earned it, yet.
SM: Utah – Just say it: Utah football is a top 5 team. No, it doesn’t flow off the tongue correctly. You can’t convince me they have a roster that can continue this streak. This fairy tale will end soon. At least, I hope it does.
AK: USC – The bans are gone, they have the coach they wanted and a seasoned quarterback, yet they still continue to underachieve. It is only Sarks second year, but they have been almost mirror images. The continue to lose games they should win and one of the popular Pac 12 championship picks have lost two games to teams that really should not have been in the stadium with the Trojans this year. They continue to be inconsistent and until the Trojans can figure that out, the conference is to good to be won that way.
AK: Michigan vs. Northwestern – Last year, this game would not have been on television. This year we have two teams playing that, to the surprise of almost everyone, are tops of the Big Ten and are both ranked teams. Say what you want about the styles of the teams, but this will be a great game for football fans to see what could be two teams that will make the Big Ten deeper in years to come.
SM: Duke Williams – Million dollar talent, ten cent head. At least that is what it appears so far. After being kicked off the Auburn football team for a bar fight, things are not looking good for the once, bright spot, of the Auburn offense. My mind jumps to Josh Gordon and Justin Blackmon. Hate to see great talent wasted on petty and worthless things like partying, alcohol, and drugs.
SM: Texas A&M – Quit sleeping. The Aggies are preparing for Bama as we speak. This bye week should have the Crimson Tide shaking in their boots. Going to be a lot of angry Alabama fans come Week 6. Roll Aggies.
* We had a reader ask us to put some betting lines that we liked in the article going forward, so here are some of our favorites.
– I am taking Oklahoma to cover 16.5 against Texas.
– Washington State will keep it within 17.5 against Oregon and it hurts me to say that
– And I am taking the over in Baylor vs Kansas at 76.5
– California is sitting at +7.5 against Utah. My upset pick is for the Bears to not only cover, but upset the Utes. Easy money.
– TCU is my lock. The spread is -9 for the Horned Frogs. No disrespect to K-State, but with TCU’s high powered offense, I don’t see the Wildcats keeping it to single digits.
– My second lock is Florida over Missouri. The spread is -4 in favor of the Gators. I’m high on Florida’s D right now. Bet Gators to cover.
