Ireland lifted the 6 Nations trophy at Murrayfield on Saturday 1 year on from scooping the title in Paris.
After a nerve-wracking evening Ireland were confirmed as the 2015 Six Nations Champions when England failed to secure the 26 point clear score required to take the title against France at Twickenham. Ireland now hold back-to back 6 Nations titles having won the title a year earlier in Paris. They are also the first Irish squad to do so in 66 years.
In my opinion Ireland were very worthy winners having played well throughout the whole campaign despite losing to Wales in the last round, they have had a very strong capable squad which also showed they were capable of coping and keeping to their winning ways without Brian O’Driscoll who retired from rugby last year.
One standout player for Ireland throughout the Six Nations had to be fly half Jonathan Sexton, despite picking up a couple of injuries and missing Ireland’s opening game of the 2015 campaign I believe that his kicking capabilities are first class and have been paramount to Ireland’s success. Having scored a total of 16 penalties and 5 conversions during Ireland’s 2015 campaign I’m sure many would also agree.
With all eyes now firmly fixed on the World Cup it will be interesting to see how Ireland perform, I think they will be one of the potential contenders for the World Cup based on their Six Nations performances but only time will tell.
