Michigan State vs. Duke
Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans will be squaring off against Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils to decide who will advance to the national championship. Michigan State is the second 7 seed to make the final four since 1984 after beating 4 Louisville in the easiest bracket ever with all three of the top seeds (Villanova, Virginia, and Oklahoma) being overrated. Duke hasn’t had any trouble thus far in the tournament, and Saturday against Michigan State should be no different.
Duke just crushed Gonzaga and beat Utah more convincingly than the score would indicate. Michigan State doesn’t have enough size to match up against Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow. Winslow has been playing out of his mind, and I would expect more of the same against Michigan State. Okafor hasn’t been great, but he has been doing his job; yielding a lot of the weight to Winslow. Quinn Cook, after a great game in Duke’s opener against Robert Morris, hasn’t played shot well, going 1-6 from downtown in his last two games combined, including an 0-1 performance against Utah which snapped his streak of 45 games with at least one three-pointer. So Cook and Okafor are both due for big games, and Sparty just doesn’t have the talent to matchup against them and the rest of the Blue Devils.
Prediction: Duke wins by 10+
Wisconsin vs. Kentucky
Kentucky escapes once again. The Irish were anything but lucky in their last second loss to the Wildcats. Wisconsin handled Arizona behind the lights out performance of Sam Dekker who went 5-6 from deep and has totaled 50 points in Wisconsin’s last two games. Karl-Anthony Towns was a man possessed in the game against the undersized Notre Dame team. If he gets into foul trouble, then Kentucky will be in a little bit of trouble, but would be able to cope because of their depth. Frank the Tank, on the other hand, must stay out of foul trouble in order for Wisconsin to win this game. Kaminsky has 48 in his last two games combined, and that average would take a big hit if he gets into early foul trouble. Kentucky is facing the hottest team in the nation right now with two of the hottest players in the country.
Ultimately, this one is going to be very close, and Wisconsin’s experience is going to beat the unbeatable. Kentucky will finally go down.
Prediction: Wisconsin wins in a nailbiter
