The biggest news to come from Germany’s top flight is arguably Dortmund’s much awaited re-signing of midfield ace Marco Reus. The German star had been linked with clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as numerous other top clubs on the continent. However Die Gelbe Wand will be delighted to hear their home town hero has extended his contract until June 2019. Especially as this comes amidst a results crisis in Westphalia, fans will be hoping that this is just the boost their beloved Borussen need.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke went as far as to compare Reus to Steven Gerrard and Uwe Seeler, both of whom defined an era with their respective clubs. He went on to personally hail Reus for his loyalty. “The fact that Marco made this decision in the midst of a sporting crisis at BVB shows how much he identifies with the club and that makes us very proud.”

Best of the weekend

The news came through on the 10th of February, just 3 days after Dortmund’s 3-0 win against Freiburg in which Reus himself cheekily bagged a goal off Aubameyang’s fancy footwork in the 9th minute. This actually denied Aubameyang a hatrick as he bagged two more goal in the second half. The much needed victory saw Dortmund climb two places, leapfrogging the defeated SC Freiburg.

Chelsea fans will be delighted to hear their former World cup star Andre Schürlle has made himself at home and slotted right in at Wolfsburg. The winger signed for German champions of 08/09 for £24m in January, and provided team-mate Bas Dost with an inch-perfect cross to score from close-range after just three minutes.

Schürrle then cracked a thunderous shot against the crossbar which fellow former Blues winger Kevin de Bruyne nodded into an empty net on the rebound on 28 minutes.

Unsurprisingly, Bayern Munich continued their romping Bundesliga campaign under Pep Guardiola with another win, this time seeing off bottom of the table VFB Stuttgart. Arjen Robben opened his account for the year with this season’s 12th league goal with a superb volley from inside the box. Teammate David Alaba was not to be outdone however, scoring an incredible 35 yard free kick at the near post, ensuring the Bayern Juggernaut plows on with 49 points, 8 ahead of second place Wolfsburg.
Below are the rest of the results from the weekend:
