CANTON,Ohio- It’s obviously been a very very rough year if your’re a Browns fan. Knowing that when your Cleveland Browns are in a game, there’s a really good chance they’ll lose. The Cleveland Browns lost again Sunday afternoon 27-13 to the New York Giants. The crazy part is, at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Cleveland Browns actually had a chance to win the game.
I can’t say that the defense had a great day considering they gave up 27 points. But against this Giants offense, it could have been much much worse.
Defensively, I thought Joe Haden, Danny Shelton, Christian Kirksey, Briean Boddy-Calhoun and Emmanuel Ogbah all had decent to good days. Let me also put it this way. They played good enough through three quarters to win this game if Cleveland could have put together a few solid drives.
Offensively, Josh McCown was Josh McCown. He knows the offense and has a good arm, but he’s a backup and played like it in this game. To be fair, him, along with any other quarterback has to be fearing for his life behind this offensively line. The Giants sacked McCown 7 times.
Isaiah Crowell made some nice catches, but had a fumble early in the game. Terrelle Pryor had his typical day of making nice catches and trying to make big plays. Pryor caught six passes for 131 yards. I have said in past articles that Cleveland MUST sign Pryor to a long-term deal. There haven’t been many bright spots during this winless season, but watching Pryor transition from quarterback to one of the best wide receivers in the NFL has been amazing.
I never thought I’d be so happy to see Robert Griffin III come back and be the starter. While I realize he’ll probably get hurt again. Griffin is a big upgrade from McCown. I was at the game an hour and a half before kickoff and seen him putting in work on the field. He was moving around great and had a nice touch on his deep passes. He’ll be ready and named the starter when the Browns come out of their bye-week in two weeks to host the Bengals.
Browns offensively linemen John Greco was seen walking out of FirstEnergy stadium on crutches. I’m guessing Alvin Bailey will be inserted into the starting lineup.
I looked down the stats line from the game. I just realized that the Giants had 9 penalties for 100 yards. Just imagine if the Browns had a decent offense with the way our defense played today. Cleveland could have won this game.
The Cleveland Browns finally get a week off. I suggest the entire team gets away from the game completely and try to refresh their minds. I really do not like when a bye-week falls this late in the season.
Next up, Cleveland hosts Cincinnati. The Bengals aren’t playing much better this season. They lost on the road at Baltimore.
