Broulis Beat Report: Some Quick Yet Random Cavs Thoughts

CANTON,Ohio- I’ll admit it, I was so disgusted with the Cavs after their loss to the depleted Memphis who were missing 7 players and most of them being starters such as Marc Gasol and Zack Randolf.

In my opinion Cleveland should have had this game won no later than early in the third quarter. There was no excuse to lose to the Grizzlies Monday night but I’ll tell you why they lost, not just that game, but some of their previous games.

Truth be told the Cavs are still a top 3 team in the league despite how some of you may be feeling after the loss to Memphis but in my honest opinion my feelings of them being able to win the NBA title have changed.

At first I felt extremely confident of Cleveland winning the NBA finals but what really gets to me is the Cavaliers lack of energy, focus and urgency against teams that don’t stack up on paper compared to the Cavs.

Let me bring in Golden State quickly. Who would have ever predicted that the Warriors would get man handled by, of all teams, the Lakers who are awful!

I think we all need to remember a about of things with the Cavs. They’ll have their ups and their downs and sometimes whether they’d want to admit it or not their focus just isn’t there and during an 82 game season any team loses it’s focus and sometimes they look past lesser talented teams or just get bored.

Sorry if I sound as though I’m making excuses but I’m just telling you how it is. This is one reason why I’d like to see the NBA reduce it’s regular season to 72 games so that teams are forced to have more urgency and focus due to a shorter season like college football.

But losing to such a depleted team like the Grizzlies was beyond awful and quite frankly it was embarrassing as a Cavs fan. I was so mad that I actually vented on Facebook and I rarely if ever do that.

Does anyone notice much of a change in this team since Lue took over? I know I don’t see much.

Their pushing the pace more but other than that the defense is average until they decide to actually play defense and the bench is still not being used to my liking. I really wish they’d use Frye and James Jones a little more often.

I wrote in an article 2 weeks ago that they still aren’t using Love right. I said make him start from the inside out. Either have him shoot 15 foot jump shots to start out or mix it up between that and post up shots. Love is not a great 3 point shooter despite what a lot of people may think. In 2010-2011 he shot 41 percent from 3 which is really good but that has dropped down to 37, 21, 37, 36 and 35 percent since. Please use him better.

I’ll have more thoughts on the Cavs this week so stay tuned.
